West Creek Park in Valencia: Inclusive Playground & Neighborhood Park Guide

West Creek Park in Valencia quietly became one of the best-designed parks in the Santa Clarita Valley in January 2023, when a 10,000-plus-square-foot inclusive play area opened beside its amphitheater, courts, and paseo paths. It is free, it is sensory-friendly, and every kid in the valley deserves a day here. Here is the insider guide from Sam Silver, Special Olympics coach and local REALTOR.

A Park Built for Everyone

West Creek Park sits on Village Circle in the West Creek neighborhood of Valencia, right next to Rio Norte Junior High. The roughly 17-acre neighborhood park joined the City of Santa Clarita system in November 2016 when the West Creek and West Hills communities were annexed from Los Angeles County, and it has been quietly improving ever since. The centerpiece is the inclusive play area that opened in January 2023, the city's second, after Canyon Country Park: more than 10,000 square feet of shaded, wheelchair-accessible playground that is genuinely designed for every age and ability. It is free, it is open daily, and it belongs on every SCV family's rotation.

Inclusion First

Why This Park Matters

The inclusive play area at West Creek was built so that kids of every ability can play together, side by side. The surfacing is a wheelchair-accessible rubber surface with a creek motif running through it, the swings include a We-Go-Swing and We-Go-Round that riders never have to transfer out of, and a dual-track zip line lets an adaptive side and a standard side run together. There are musical elements (drums, chimes, and bells), spinners, balance beams, a wobble course, and both toddler and big-kid structures, all under generous shade.

As a Special Olympics coach, this is the kind of place I wish every community had. It is the home of the city's annual FestAbility inclusion festival each spring, and the park hosts the Jingle Bell 5K/10K/Half Marathon on the first Sunday of December, a holiday race that draws families from across the valley. Inclusion is not a slogan here; it is the design brief.

Sam's Insider Tips

How Locals Do It

  • "Mornings are the magic window. The playground shade is at its best before 10 a.m., and the park is nearly empty on school days."
  • "If you have a young athlete or a wheeled toy, come on the paseo side: the paved paths connect all the way into the neighborhood network."
  • "Mark the first Sunday of December for the Jingle Bell Run weekend energy, and spring for FestAbility, the city's inclusion festival on these lawns."
  • "Pair West Creek with the Living in Valencia guide and the paseo tour for a perfect half-day in this corner of the valley."
