The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was born from the heroic final walk of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who on September 11, 2001, strapped on his gear and ran through the Brooklyn Tunnel to the World Trade Center — where he gave his life saving others. His story inspired a movement that has since helped thousands of military and first responder families across the country.

Through its core programs, Tunnel to Towers provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and the families of fallen first responders, builds specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and works to eradicate veteran homelessness through permanent housing and supportive services. The foundation operates Veteran Villages in West Los Angeles and Riverside, California, providing wraparound support for veterans in Southern California.

Tunnel to Towers also runs the annual 5K Run & Walk events across the country — including events throughout California — bringing communities together to remember and honor those who served. For SCV residents, participating in these events or supporting the foundation's mission is a meaningful way to give back to the veterans and first responders who protect our communities every day.

Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley is part of a national network dedicated to ending family homelessness — one family at a time. Their local affiliate works with families in the SCV who are experiencing housing crises, providing a comprehensive pathway from crisis to stability.

Through emergency shelter, transitional housing, case management, and long-term support, Family Promise helps families rebuild their lives. Their model goes beyond a roof — they connect families with job training, financial literacy, childcare, and the community partnerships needed to achieve lasting independence.

The LARC Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Santa Clarita Valley. Their mission centers on creating opportunities for independence, community inclusion, and personal growth through a wide range of programs and services.

From residential support and day programs to vocational training and life-skills development, LARC Foundation provides comprehensive services designed to help individuals reach their full potential. Their advocacy work also promotes awareness and inclusion throughout the broader SCV community.

Straightening Reins is a Santa Clarita Valley nonprofit that uses the healing power of horses to support individuals facing special needs, trauma, and other life challenges. Their equine-assisted therapy programs combine professional therapeutic techniques with time-tested interactions between people and horses to promote emotional growth, confidence, and well-being.

Equine-assisted therapy has been shown to help participants build trust, improve communication skills, develop emotional regulation, and gain a sense of accomplishment. For veterans, first responders, and community members dealing with PTSD, anxiety, or other challenges, the connection formed with a therapy horse can be a powerful catalyst for healing.
