From sprawling sports complexes to hidden neighborhood gems, SCV is packed with incredible parks for families. Here's Sam's guide to the best playgrounds, trails, and green spaces for every part of the valley.

One of the biggest advantages of raising a family in the Santa Clarita Valley is the park system. With over 30 public parks, 100+ miles of trails, and a city government that prioritizes green space, there is almost always a great park within walking distance of your home.
As a 22-year local and a REALTOR who has helped countless families find their perfect neighborhood, I've spent more time at SCV parks than I can count — coaching Special Olympics, meeting clients for weekend walk-throughs, and just enjoying weekends with the community. Here are the parks I recommend most, broken down by what makes each one special.

Crown Jewel
Central Park

If there is one park that defines community life in Santa Clarita, it's Central Park. At 129 acres, it is the valley's largest and most versatile park — the venue for Concerts in the Park every summer, the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival each spring, and countless community gatherings year-round.
For families, the playgrounds are the main draw. Central Park has multiple age-appropriate play structures — one designed for toddlers and younger kids, another for older children — spread across the park so there is plenty of room. The park also features sports fields, a skate park, a BMX track, walking trails, and shaded picnic areas with barbecue grills.
Sam's tip: Come early on Saturday mornings before the crowds hit. The walking trail around the perimeter is perfect for a family stroll, and the playgrounds are quiet before 9 AM. If you're here for Concerts in the Park, bring blankets and arrive by 6 PM for a good spot.
Valencia Favorite
Bridgeport Park

Bridgeport Park is the heart of the Valencia community. Located in the Bridgeport neighborhood near the Westfield Valencia Town Center, this park is a favorite among Valley families for its wide-open spaces, tree-lined walking paths, and excellent playground equipment.
The park features two separate playground areas — one for toddlers with smaller slides and ground-level activities, and one for older kids with climbing structures and taller slides. The perimeter walking path is a popular spot for parents pushing strollers, and the large grassy areas are perfect for impromptu soccer games or frisbee.
Bridgeport also connects to the Valencia paseo system, the network of pedestrian and bike paths that weave through the Valencia master-planned community. From Bridgeport Park, you can walk or bike to the Town Center,多家 restaurants, and several other parks without ever crossing a major road.
Canyon Country
Golden Valley Park

Golden Valley Park is the go-to destination for families in the eastern side of the valley. Recently renovated, this park boasts one of the best playgrounds in SCV — a modern, accessible play structure with slides, climbing nets, and sensory play elements that kids absolutely love.
Beyond the playground, Golden Valley Park features a large grass field perfect for team sports, a basketball court, a separate dog park (always a bonus when the whole family wants to come), a walking path, and shaded picnic tables. It also connects to the Santa Clara River Trail, making it a great starting point for a family bike ride.
Sam's tip: Golden Valley is right near several new restaurants including the recently opened Angry Chickz. Grab some Nashville hot chicken to-go and make it a picnic dinner at the park — the tables near the playground let you eat while the kids keep playing.
Neighborhood Gem
Plum Canyon Park

Tucked into the Plum Canyon neighborhood off the 14 Freeway, Plum Canyon Park is one of SCV's best neighborhood parks. It has a more intimate, community-oriented feel than the larger regional parks — the kind of place where neighbors run into each other and kids make friends at the playground.
The playground here is modern and well-maintained with equipment for both younger and older children. There is also a basketball court, a large grass area for running and games, and shaded benches for parents. The park sits at the edge of the neighborhood with views of the San Gabriel Mountains — sunset visits here are beautiful.
Plum Canyon Park is also the gateway to several hiking trails that wind up into the hills behind the neighborhood. For families with older kids who want a short, easy hike before playground time, the trails from the park offer a perfect warm-up.
History & Nature
William S. Hart Park

William S. Hart Park is unlike any other park in the valley — a 265-acre estate that was once the home of silent film cowboy star William S. Hart. Today it combines a beautiful park with a living history museum, making it a unique family destination.
Kids love Hart Park for the American bison herd that lives on the grounds, the farm animals at the petting zoo area, and the massive oak trees perfect for climbing. The park also features hiking trails into the adjacent hills, shaded picnic areas, and the historic Hart mansion (available for tours on weekends).
Hart Park hosts several major events during the year, including the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival in April and the Hart of the West Pow Wow in October. The park is also the venue for City Cinemas outdoor movies — Jurassic Park plays here on August 28, 2026. It is open daily from dawn to dusk with free admission.

Fair Oaks Park
Canyon Country
A fully wheelchair-accessible park with designated play areas for toddlers, school-age kids, and inclusive equipment. A shining example of SCV's commitment to parks for everyone. Basketball court, walking paths, and plenty of shade.
Castaic Lake Recreation Area
Castaic
While technically a lake, the Castaic Recreation Area has playgrounds, picnic areas, and a swim beach that make it a full family destination. The lower lagoon area is especially family-friendly. Boat rentals available. Day-use fee applies.
Canyon Country Community Center
Canyon Country
Not a traditional park, but the community center grounds include a modern playground, splash pad (seasonal), basketball courts, and open green space. Hosts the Celebrate Series events, farmers markets, and community carnivals year-round.
Valencia Heritage Park
Valencia
A smaller, quieter neighborhood park near the Valencia Country Club. Great for younger children with a well-kept playground. The surrounding trees provide excellent shade on hot summer days. A hidden gem for a calm afternoon.
Santa Clarita Sports Complex
Valencia
Home to the SCV Aquatics Center, the Ice Station Valencia, and massive sports fields. Not a traditional park but a major family recreation hub. The aquatics center has a competition pool, warm-water pool, and water slides that kids love in summer.
Sam's Pro Tip: Park-Hopping
One of the best things about SCV's park system is that many parks are connected by the paseo trail network. You can park at Bridgeport and walk to Valencia Heritage Park, or start at Golden Valley and connect to the Santa Clara River Trail. Turn a playground visit into a family adventure — the kids can play at two different parks in one afternoon.
