Summer weekends in Santa Clarita Valley are something special. Between the free concerts, the farmers markets that feel like a real community gathering, and all the outdoor adventures within a 15-minute drive, you never have to ask "what should we do this weekend?" This July 18-19 is shaping up to be a classic SCV summer weekend, and I've mapped out the perfect two-day plan. Let's get into it.
- Concerts in the Park — Central Park, 7 PM, free
- Main Street Newhall — evening dining and nightlife
- Catch a movie — Edwards Santa Clarita 12 or Regal Valencia
- SCV Farmers Market — Old Town Newhall, 8 AM – 12 PM

Friday night in Santa Clarita means one thing in the summer: Concerts in the Park. This week's show at Central Park (27150 Bouquet Canyon Road) kicks off at 7 PM, and it's completely free. Bring a blanket or a low-back chair, grab some dinner from one of the food trucks that roll in, and settle in for an evening of live music under the stars with your neighbors. If live music isn't your thing, there's plenty else to do. Main Street Newhall is the place to be for evening dining and nightlife — the walkable strip through Old Town Newhall is packed with local restaurants, craft cocktail bars, and that small-town main street energy that makes SCV such a special place to live. Grab dinner at one of the patios, then wander down the block for a nightcap.
Movie night is also a solid call. Both Edwards Santa Clarita 12 and Regal Valencia are showing the latest summer blockbusters. Beat the heat in air-conditioned comfort with popcorn and a big screen — sometimes that's exactly what a Friday calls for.
"Concerts in the Park is a must-see if you haven't been yet this summer. The energy at Central Park on a Friday night in July is pure SCV — families, friends, neighbors, all together with good music and good food. Time it right: get there around 6:30 PM to find your spot, grab a bite from a food truck before the show, and stay for the whole set. Afterward, head over to Main Street Newhall for a late bite or a drink. That's a perfect summer Friday."

Start Your Morning at the Farmers Market
Saturday mornings in SCV? Start at the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market (24667 Walnut Street, 8 AM – 12 PM). This is the real deal — fresh produce from local farms, artisan breads and pastries, honey, flowers, and prepared foods from local vendors. Grab a coffee, wander the stalls, stock up on seasonal fruit, and soak in that small-town Saturday morning energy. The market runs year-round, but summer is when the produce really shines — stone fruits, heirloom tomatoes, melons, sweet corn. Don't show up hungry.
Get Outside: Hiking Before the Heat
Once you've got your market haul, it's time to hit the trails. Summer hiking in SCV is all about timing — you want to be on the trail early, wrapped up before the afternoon sun really kicks in. This Saturday, pick one of these classic SCV hikes:
Towsley Canyon
The Towsley View Loop gives you panoramic canyon views. About 2.5 miles, moderate. Start by 7:30 AM.

Explore SCVAfternoon Fun: Shopping, Golf & the Lake
By midday, the temperature's climbing, and it's time to pivot. Valencia Town Center and Valley Plaza Mall are the go-to spots for shopping and dining in air-conditioned comfort. Valencia Town Center has that open-air mall vibe with covered walkways, fountains, and a solid mix of shops and restaurants. Valley Plaza Mall is the classic indoor option with the food court, department stores, and a movie theater if you missed Friday's showings.
If golf is on your mind, check with Paseo Club or Valencia Country Club for weekend tee times or social events. Both are beautiful courses that anchor the country club lifestyle SCV is known for. Even if you're not playing, Paseo Club often has poolside dining and social events open to members and their guests.
And for the ultimate summer Saturday move: Castaic Lake. Pack the cooler, grab the towels, and head to the lake for swimming, paddleboarding, or just a good old-fashioned picnic by the water. The lake is about 15 minutes north of Valencia, and on a July Saturday it's the place to be. The designated swim areas have lifeguards during peak hours, and you can rent paddleboards and kayaks at the marina if you don't have your own. Pro tip: get there by 10 AM on a summer Saturday to snag a good spot before the crowds roll in.

Early Morning Hikes

Splash Pads & Aquatic Centers

Local Ice Cream Shops
Cool down with a scoop from SCV's best ice cream spots. Try McConnell's Fine Ice Creams at Valencia Town Center for California-made classics, Rococo Ice Cream in Newhall for artisan flavors, or Brusters on Bouquet Canyon for a walk-up treat. Gelato at Venice Bakery on Lyons is another hidden gem.
Indoor Activities
When it's too hot to be outside, SCV has plenty of indoor options: catch a movie at Edwards or Regal, browse the shops at Valencia Town Center or Valley Plaza Mall, visit the Santa Clarita Public Library branches, or explore the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar. Our summer guide has the full rundown.
