Celebrate: Jamaica Night
Friday, August 14 · 6:00–9:00 PM · Canyon Country Community Center · Free Admission
The City of Santa Clarita's Celebrate Series wraps up its summer 2026 season with a vibrant Jamaica Night at the Canyon Country Community Center (18410 Sierra Highway). This free, family-friendly cultural celebration runs from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and is the perfect way to kick off your weekend.
Expect live reggae and dancehall music filling the evening air, traditional Jamaican dance performances, authentic Jamaican cuisine from food trucks, and hands-on cultural activities for all ages. The Usain Bolt Sprint Challenge invites kids and adults alike to test their speed on a timed dash — a crowd favorite at past Celebrate events. Tie-dye craft stations let you create your own Jamaica-inspired souvenir.
The Celebrate Passport program returns — pick up a passport at the entrance, visit each activity station to collect stamps, and enter the raffle for a prize drawing. It is a wonderful way to experience the cultural diversity that makes Santa Clarita such a special community.
Day by Day
Your Weekend Breakdown
Here is how to make the most of each day. Celebrate Jamaica Night on Friday is the anchor, but there is plenty more to fill your mid-August weekend in SCV.
Evening: Celebrate Jamaica Night (6:00-9:00 PM)
The highlight of the weekend. Head to the Canyon Country Community Center (18410 Sierra Highway) for a free, family-friendly evening of Jamaican culture. Live reggae and dancehall music will have you swaying under the string lights. Authentic Jamaican food trucks serve up jerk chicken, patties, and other Caribbean favorites. The Usain Bolt Sprint Challenge is a blast for kids and adults alike. Bring the whole family, grab a Celebrate Passport at the gate, and collect stamps at each activity station for a raffle entry.
After: Main Street Newhall or Relax at Home
After Celebrate Jamaica wraps up at 9 PM, head to Main Street Newhall for a nightcap. Newhall Refinery stays open late with craft cocktails and a welcoming patio. Or just head home and recharge — Saturday is going to be a great day.
Morning: SCV Farmers Market in Old Town Newhall
Start your Saturday at the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market (24667 Walnut St, 8 AM to 12 PM). Fresh produce, local honey, artisan breads, and prepared foods. Grab a coffee and breakfast taco while you browse the stalls. It is the heart of SCV's community spirit and the best way to kick off a Saturday morning.
Midday: Beat the Heat Options
August afternoons in SCV hit 95-105 degrees, so plan your midday wisely. You have great options:
- Castaic Lake — swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking by the water. About 15 minutes from central SCV.
- Splash Pads — free water play at Central Park, Canyon Country Community Park, and West Creek Park. Check out Sam's Splash Pads Guide for details.
- Valencia Town Center — air-conditioned shopping and dining. The new Round1 Bowling & Arcade is under construction, and new restaurants like KPOT Korean BBQ keep opening.
- Haskell Canyon Bike Park — if you are an early riser, hit the trails before 8 AM. 720 acres, 15+ miles of trails, and the first directional downhill trails in SCV.
Evening: Concerts in the Park — Paramore! At the Disco
Saturday night means Concerts in the Park at Central Park (7:00 PM, free admission). This week's headliner is Paramore! At the Disco — a high-energy Paramore and Panic! At The Disco tribute that will have the whole park singing along. Bring blankets, arrive early for food trucks, and enjoy live music under the stars. It is the perfect cap to a full Saturday.
Morning: Brunch & Sunday Farmers Market
Sunday is your chance to slow down. Grab brunch at the historic Saugus Cafe (serving since 1898) for classic American breakfast and generous portions. Or try Egg Plantation for their famous omelets — a local favorite. For something lighter, The Daily Harvest in Valencia serves excellent açaí bowls and smoothies. The Sunday Farmers Market at The Oaks shopping center is also a great option for fresh produce and artisan goods.
Midday: Family Outing Options
Sunday afternoon offers several great family-friendly choices:
- The Gentle Barn — animal sanctuary at 15825 Sierra Highway. Open Sundays 10 AM to 2 PM with advance reservations. Cow hugs, rescued farm animals, and a heartwarming family outing. $15-$25 per person.
- William S. Hart Park — free hiking trails, the Hart Museum, and the 265-acre park. A perfect relaxed afternoon under the oak trees.
- Castaic Lake — swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or just a picnic by the water. The lower lagoon swim beach is ideal for families with young kids.
Evening: Wind Down and Recharge
After a full weekend of community events and outdoor fun, take Sunday evening to recharge. A quiet walk on Valencia's paseo trail system, an ice cream run to a local shop, or just lounging at home. You have earned it before the work week begins.

Arrive Early for Jamaica Night
The Celebrate Series draws a great crowd. Arrive right at 6 PM to get your Celebrate Passport, grab a good spot for the music, and hit the food trucks before the lines get long. The Usain Bolt Sprint Challenge is most fun when the energy is high.
Beat the Heat on Saturday
Saturday will be hot. Do the farmers market early (8-10 AM), then cool off at Castaic Lake, a splash pad, or the air-conditioned Valencia Town Center. The concert at Central Park starts at 7 PM — by then the temperature drops to the pleasant 80s.
Parking for Concerts
Central Park's lots fill up fast on concert nights. Arrive by 6:15 PM for a good spot, or park at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex and enjoy a short walk through the paseo system to the park.
Plan for Fall Events
Fall in SCV fills up fast. The Gilchrist Farm Harvest Festival (Sep 26-27) requires advance booking for some activities. The Holiday Season preview is already out in Sam's guides. It is not too early to put dates on the calendar.
