Turkey Trots: earn the feast
Two local Thanksgiving-morning races anchor the day for SCV runners, and both are family friendly.
COC Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
An annual Thanksgiving-morning 3-mile run through the Valencia campus, starting near Cougar Stadium. It benefits the college's cross country and track & field programs, and finishers earn a medal. A flat, friendly route and easy parking make it the classic SCV way to start the day. Registration opens in October through the college.
SCTC Turkey Trot: 5K & 1K
The Santa Clarita Track Club's Thanksgiving Day Trot offers a 5K and a 1K on Thanksgiving Day at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, supporting local youth sports. Now in its third year, it is a fun, low-pressure run for the whole family, with the little ones covered by the short 1K.

The City of Santa Clarita hosts free Thanksgiving community dinners at both the Newhall and Canyon Country community centers, so neighbors can sit down together on the holiday. If you can, volunteer to help make them happen.

The city hosts the free dinners at both centers around Thanksgiving. The dates, serving times, and menu are announced by the City each November, and they fill fast, so check the SCV events calendar as the holiday approaches.

SCV Food Pantry
At 24133 Railroad Avenue, Newhall, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has hosted a big pre-Thanksgiving turkey giveaway for its clients in recent years, so pantry doors close in on a very full fridge. Reach out to the pantry for 2026 pickup details.
COC Students' Table
College of the Canyons' Basic Needs Center teams with the Rotary Club of the Santa Clarita Valley for a drive-thru Thanksgiving food drive benefiting students. Nonperishable drop-offs are listed each fall on the COC campus.
Local Drives, Big Hauls
The SCV Corvette Club holds a Thanksgiving-week food drive at Sam's Club, and Real Life Church's Canyon Country congregation assembles and delivers the "Give-a-Turkey" meal kits for hundreds of local families every year.
