There are organizations in this valley that quietly do extraordinary work. Single Mothers Outreach is one of them. As someone who believes deeply in community — in service before self — I want to shine a light on this incredible organization and the families they support every single day.
What Is Single Mothers Outreach?
Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) is a Santa Clarita-based nonprofit with a straightforward but powerful mission: to empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support, and resources so families can become self-sustaining and thrive. They serve single-parent families across the Santa Clarita Valley, offering free services and membership to anyone who needs them.
This is not a government agency or a faceless charity. SMO is a genuine community organization run by people who live here, work here, and care deeply about their neighbors. They understand that single parents face unique challenges — housing, finances, career advancement, emotional support — and they meet those challenges head-on with practical, compassionate programs that make a real difference in people's lives.
Assist. Grow. Connect.
Single Mothers Outreach delivers its mission through three core programs, each designed to meet families where they are and walk with them toward stability and independence.
Assist
Emergency Stabilization
The Assist program provides immediate support for families facing urgent challenges. This includes food assistance, housing resources, clothing, essential household items, and mental health counseling. When a single parent in SCV hits a crisis point — job loss, unexpected bills, housing instability — Assist is there to catch them.
For families facing food insecurity, SMO operates a food pantry and connects parents with ongoing nutrition resources. For those at risk of losing housing, the team provides rental assistance navigation and landlord mediation. It is triage with compassion, stabilization with dignity.
Grow
Career & Financial Development
The Grow program is about building a future. It offers career development training, financial literacy workshops, job readiness preparation, and educational scholarships. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish, removing language barriers that might otherwise hold families back.
Single parents learn budgeting, resume building, interview skills, and career planning. They earn certifications that open doors to better-paying jobs. They build the financial skills that lead to stability and independence. This is not a handout — it is a hand up, and it works.
Connect
Community Resources & Referrals
No single organization can do everything. The Connect program bridges that gap by linking families to a broader network of partner agencies and community resources. Healthcare, financial guidance, childcare, employment services, legal aid — whatever a family needs, Connect helps them find it.
SMO also fosters community through classes, group therapy sessions, celebratory events, and a warm, supportive network of fellow single parents. Because sometimes what a parent needs most is to know they are not alone — and there are people in their corner who truly understand.

Why Sam Supports Single Mothers Outreach
I believe in service before self. That value was forged during my time in the U.S. Army, and it has guided everything I have done since — as a REALTOR, a Special Olympics coach, and a member of this community.
Single mothers face some of the toughest challenges in our community. They are raising children, building careers, managing households, and navigating financial pressures, often with limited support systems. They are some of the hardest-working people I have ever met, and they deserve a community that shows up for them.

As a REALTOR who has worked with single parents throughout my career, I see every day how critical stable housing is to a family's success.
