Birdstock Music Festival & Holiday Market
October 9-11, 2026 · Sunflower Stage, Santa Clarita
The Birdstock Music Festival and Holiday Market returns for its 2026 edition, bringing three days of live music, artisan vendors, and holiday shopping to the Sunflower Stage in Santa Clarita. This is one of those events that captures everything special about fall in SCV — live bands playing under the October sun, local craft vendors selling handmade gifts, food trucks serving up seasonal favorites, and the whole community gathering together outdoors.
Birdstock has grown into a significant local tradition, drawing music lovers from across Southern California. The lineup typically features a mix of cover bands and original acts across multiple genres. The Holiday Market component makes it a great early holiday shopping destination — you will find everything from handcrafted jewelry to pottery, candles, and artisanal food products from local makers.
Sam's tip: Go on Saturday for the best combination of music and vendors. Bring cash for the artisan market, and arrive early for parking. The early October weather in SCV is usually perfect for an outdoor festival — mid-70s and sunny.
Canyon Theatre Guild

The Canyon Theatre Guild is one of SCV's cultural treasures. Housed in a historic building on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, this community theater has been producing quality live performances for decades. For fall 2026, they are staging "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" — a show that has received rave reviews in other markets and is sure to be a highlight of the season.

The Canyon Theatre Guild in Old Town Newhall is staging "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" from late September through the beginning of November. This acclaimed production tells the story of Carole King's remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, featuring hits like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "One Fine Day," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."
Weekend performances run from September 27 through November 1, giving you plenty of opportunities to catch this show. The Canyon Theatre Guild's intimate setting on Main Street makes every seat a good seat, and the show is appropriate for most ages. It is a wonderful date night option or a special outing with friends.
After the show, walk over to Newhall Refinery or Pablo's for a drink and dinner on Main Street. Old Town Newhall's restaurant and bar scene makes for a perfect theater evening.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest

Southern California's premier Halloween event returns for its 33rd year. Fright Fest transforms Six Flags Magic Mountain into a haunted theme park with multiple haunted houses (including a new Final Destination maze and Wolves' Blood), scare zones, live shows, and rides operating in the dark. With 25 nights of fright scheduled, there is plenty of opportunity to experience the scares. For families with younger kids, Tricks and Treats runs on Fridays through Sundays from September 25 through November 1 — a family-friendly daytime alternative with a Trick-or-Treat Trail, activities, and rides minus the scares.
Haunted Jailhouse at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station
October 2026 (dates TBD) · Free Admission
A beloved SCV tradition now in its 34th year. The Haunted Jailhouse at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station transforms the station into a haunted house experience for the community. Beyond the scares, the event features food trucks, live entertainment, arts and crafts, a dunk tank, costume contests for kids, and of course the haunted jailhouse tour itself. Best of all, it is free and family-friendly (with a separate, less intense area for younger children). This is one of those events that defines community spirit in Santa Clarita.
SCV Home Haunts — Neighborhood Haunted Houses

Santa Clarita has a thriving home haunt scene — neighbors who transform their yards and garages into elaborate haunted houses each October. Some of the most notable include Cuestport Haunt, Pumpkin Hallow Haunt, Shiver Haunt, and several others throughout Valencia, Saugus, and Canyon Country. These are typically free or donation-based, and they represent the creative, community-driven spirit that makes SCV special. Many home haunts coordinate their openings on specific weekends in October, so follow local social media groups for the latest schedules.
Finish the Ride — Halloween Edition

The monthly Finish the Ride cycling event gets a Halloween makeover in October. Riders are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in the costume contest. The ride takes place at West Creek Park, with a family-friendly route suitable for all ages and skill levels. This is a great opportunity to get active, enjoy the cooler October weather, and have some seasonal fun on two wheels.

Veterans Day Ceremony
The annual Veterans Day Ceremony takes place at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Historical Plaza in Santa Clarita. A moving community tribute to those who have served, featuring a color guard, wreath laying, guest speakers, and music. As a U.S. Army veteran myself, this is an event I make a point to attend every year. The plaza at 24275 Walnut Street becomes hallowed ground as the community honors our veterans. Free and open to all.
Hart Rampage — 42nd Annual
The 42nd annual Hart Rampage band tournament, hosted by Hart High School, brings together school marching bands from across the region for a day of music, competition, and community spirit. This long-running SCV tradition is a showcase of young musical talent and a beloved community event. Mark your calendar for November 7 and come out to support the next generation of musicians.
Santa Clarita Street Fair
The Santa Clarita Street Fair takes place the last weekend of every month in Valencia. With free admission, this recurring event features artisan vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, and a family-friendly atmosphere. The October and November editions (October 24-25 and November 28-29) take on a seasonal flavor — the October edition often has Halloween activities, while November's fair kicks off holiday shopping season.

Make a Difference Day — Citywide Volunteer Event

The City of Santa Clarita's annual Make a Difference Day brings the community together for a day of volunteer service. Hands-on projects support local nonprofits, parks, schools, and community centers across the valley. Past projects have included park clean-ups, trail maintenance, food pantry packing, mural painting, and neighborhood beautification.
It is one of the most rewarding days of the year in SCV — neighbors coming together to improve the community they share. Projects are suitable for all ages and skill levels, making it a great family volunteering opportunity. Registration is free and opens ahead of the event through the city's volunteer portal. As a community advocate and Special Olympics coach, Sam has participated in Make a Difference Day for years and encourages everyone to give it a try.
Celebrate: Mexico — Free Cultural Event

Before October hits, do not miss Celebrate: Mexico on September 11 at the Canyon Country Community Center. Part of the City of Santa Clarita's popular Celebrate Series, this free cultural event features live music, traditional dance performances, and authentic Mexican cuisine. It is a wonderful way to experience the cultural diversity of Santa Clarita and enjoy a late-summer evening outdoors.

Fright Fest tickets sell out on peak weekends, especially closer to Halloween. Buy your tickets online in advance. The Tricks and Treats daytime option is perfect for families with kids under 12 who want the theme park fun without the scares.
