A lot of people move to Santa Clarita Valley for the schools, the trails, and the safety. What they discover over time is a surprisingly deep arts and culture scene that punches way above its weight for a city of 300,000. After 22 years here, I still find new things to explore — and I want to help you do the same.
Just Reopened
William S. Hart Museum & Park

If you haven't visited the William S. Hart Museum since it reopened in April 2026, you're in for a treat. After a six-year closure, this beloved local landmark — the former home of silent film legend William S. Hart — is once again open to the public, and it's better than ever.
Set on 265 acres of rolling hills in Hart Park, the Spanish Colonial Revival mansion is filled with original furnishings from Hart's life, an impressive collection of Western art, Native American textiles and artifacts, and personal memorabilia from his early Hollywood career — including items gifted to him by Wyatt Earp and Will Rogers himself.
The museum transitioned from LA County to the City of Santa Clarita in 2024, and the city has invested significant care into refreshing the exhibits and grounds. The grand reopening on April 10, 2026 drew hundreds of SCV residents who had been waiting years to walk through the doors again.
After your museum visit, Hart Park itself is worth exploring — it has a small zoo with rescued animals, miles of walking trails, picnic areas, and the Hart Park disc golf course. It's a full day out for families.

The MAIN

Tucked right on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, The MAIN is the city's dedicated multi-use arts center and the beating heart of SCV's live performance scene. Originally established about 20 years ago and taken over by the City of Santa Clarita in 2017, this intimate venue hosts everything from live theater and comedy nights to film screenings, visual art exhibits, music performances, and community workshops.
What makes The MAIN special is its variety. On any given month you might catch a one-act play by Showdown Stage Company, a local jazz trio, a stand-up comedy showcase, and a gallery opening of a local photographer's work — all in the same intimate space. The venue also features a monthly rotating gallery exhibition and offers free programs every Thursday night, making it an accessible entry point for anyone new to the local arts scene.
It also serves as the official welcome center for Old Town Newhall, so it's a great first stop before exploring the rest of the neighborhood — including the restaurants and bars that have made Main Street one of SCV's best dining destinations.

Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center
College of the Canyons · 886-seat Main Stage
The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons is the valley's premier performance venue. Built in 2004 at a cost of $18.3 million, this 47,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility features an 886-seat Main Stage with a 7,500-square-foot proscenium stage, plus an intimate Black Box theater for smaller productions.
The PAC's Spotlight Series brings professional touring acts to SCV throughout the year — think nationally recognized musicians, dance companies, comedy tours, and Broadway-caliber productions. Past seasons have featured everything from classical orchestras and flamenco dancers to tribute bands and children's theater.
Beyond the headliner series, the PAC is also home to College of the Canyons music and theater department productions, student recitals, and community events. The acoustics are excellent, the sightlines from every seat are clear, and the lobby gallery regularly features rotating art exhibits from local and student artists.
Sam's tip: Check their website regularly — many shows sell out, and they offer discounted tickets for students, seniors, and military personnel.

Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio
Newhall · Historic Movie Studio
A 22-acre historic Western film set originally established in 1915. Purchased by singing cowboy Gene Autry in 1953, Melody Ranch has been the backdrop for countless productions including "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," "Deadwood," "Django Unchained," and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." It's a working studio — not typically open for casual touring — but keep an eye out for special public events and open houses throughout the year.

The Nethercutt Museum

One of the finest automobile collections in the world — and it's completely free. The Nethercutt Museum houses over 130 vintage and classic cars spanning the early 1900s through the 1970s, plus a stunning collection of mechanical musical instruments, antique furniture, and a 1919 Skinner pipe organ. The guided tours of the Nethercutt Collections building are a must for anyone who appreciates craftsmanship and design.
Plan Your Visit Heritage Junction Historic Park
Newhall · Outdoor History Museum
Located in the heart of Newhall, Heritage Junction is an outdoor historic park featuring beautifully preserved buildings from SCV's pioneer and railroad era. The park hosts the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society's collection, including the original Saugus Train Station, the Mitchell Schoolhouse, and the Pardee House. They also host outdoor movies, theatrical performances, and seasonal events throughout the year.

Famous for its dramatic rock formations carved by the San Andreas Fault, Vasquez Rocks is both a natural wonder and a cultural landmark. The Interpretive Center offers exhibits on the area's geology, Native American history, and its role as a iconic film location (you've definitely seen these rocks in a Star Trek episode or a classic Western). Hiking trails, picnic areas, and ranger programs make it a full-day destination.

It's a fantastic way to experience cutting-edge contemporary art and support the next generation of creative talent.

The City of Santa Clarita has invested heavily in public art, with dozens of murals, sculptures, and installations scattered across the valley. The Visit Santa Clarita Public Art Tour is a self-guided walking and driving route that takes you to the most striking pieces — from the iconic "Valencia" archway to the bronze sculptures in Old Town Newhall.
