Why SCV Is Built for an Active Lifestyle
One of the things that surprised me most when I moved to Santa Clarita Valley over 22 years ago was how easy it is to stay active here. It is not just the 300+ days of sunshine or the 100+ miles of connected paseo trails. It is the fact that the valley was designed with wellness in mind — parks every mile, bike lanes that actually connect to things, and a fitness scene that punches above its weight for a valley of 300,000 people.
Whether you are a hardcore gym rat, a dedicated yogi, someone who just wants to move more, or a parent looking for a studio that offers childcare while you take a class — SCV has you covered. This guide breaks down every major fitness and wellness option across Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, and Stevenson Ranch, so you can find the right fit for your life.
And if you are thinking about moving to the valley and wondering what the fitness scene looks like, this is the honest insider view. No fluff — just the real options from someone who has tried most of them.
Big-Box Gyms & Fitness Centers
SCV has a solid selection of well-known national gym chains. Whether you want 24-hour access, group classes, pools, or basketball courts, there is a gym that fits your routine. Here is a rundown of the major players in the valley.
EōS Fitness — Valencia
24445 Town Center Dr, Valencia
A full-service gym at Valencia Town Center with cardio, free weights, group fitness classes, and a friendly atmosphere. EōS has grown quickly across Southern California and their Valencia location is well-equipped. The membership model offers different tiers depending on whether you want access to classes, the sauna, or just the main floor.
LA Fitness — Three SCV Locations
Stevenson Ranch · Golden Valley Rd · Newhall Ranch Rd
LA Fitness has three locations across the valley, making it the most ubiquitous option. The Stevenson Ranch location on Pico Canyon Road is popular with the west valley crowd. The Golden Valley Road location serves Saugus and Canyon Country. And the Newhall Ranch Road location covers the south side of Valencia. All three have pools, basketball courts, group fitness rooms, and childcare.

The "Judgement Free Zone" on Soledad Canyon Road is a budget-friendly option with 24/7 access on higher-tier memberships. The Canyon Country location is clean, well-maintained, and rarely as packed as the bigger gyms.

A 24/7 access gym on Golden Valley Road with a smaller footprint but solid equipment. Snap Fitness is ideal if you want to get in and out without the big gym experience. Visit WebsiteOutdoor Fitness in SCV
One of the best things about Santa Clarita Valley is that you do not need a gym membership to get a great workout. With over 100 miles of connected paseo trails, dozens of parks with fitness equipment, and canyon hiking trails right outside your door, SCV is an outdoor fitness playground.
The Paseo Trail System runs throughout the valley, connecting neighborhoods, parks, and shopping centers. You will see runners, cyclists, walkers, and people doing bodyweight workouts at outdoor fitness stations along the routes every morning. The system is well-maintained, well-lit in many sections, and safe for early morning or evening workouts.
For hikers, Towsley Canyon, Placerita Canyon, and Haskell Canyon Bike Park offer trail runs and hiking with elevation gain for a real cardiovascular challenge. The newly opened Pioneer Oil Refinery Park adds another outdoor fitness option with walking paths and historical signage.
Paseo Trail System
Over 100 miles of interconnected walking, running, and biking paths that connect every corner of the valley. You can run from Valencia to Saugus without touching a road. Look for outdoor fitness stations with pull-up bars, balance equipment, and stretching areas along several key routes.
Canyon Trail Running
Towsley Canyon's Towsley View Loop, Placerita Canyon's nature trails, and Haskell Canyon's mountain bike trails double as excellent trail running routes. The elevation gain in Towsley Canyon is a serious workout. Start early in summer months to beat the heat.
Haskell Canyon Bike Park
SCV's newest outdoor fitness destination at 720 acres with 15+ miles of purpose-built mountain bike trails. The park also works for trail running, with loops ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced. The directional downhill trails are a first for Santa Clarita.

Sam's Personal Picks
After 22 years in the valley, I have tried most of these places. Here are my honest recommendations based on what you are looking for.
Best for Serious Lifters
Afterburn Fitness on Avenue Hall in Valencia. It is locally owned, well-equipped, and has the kind of community atmosphere you do not get at the national chains. The regulars are serious about training, and the staff knows everyone by name.
Best for Yoga Lovers
Hot For Yoga on Walnut Street in Old Town Newhall. The vibe is warm and welcoming, the instructors are skilled, and the location in Old Town means you can grab coffee at a nearby café after class. It has become a community hub as much as a yoga studio.
Best for New & Expecting Moms
Fit4Mom SCV. The stroller-based fitness classes let you work out with your baby, and the community of moms provides support that goes far beyond the workout. My wife loved it when our kids were little, and it is still one of the best mom-focused resources in the valley.
Best Free Workout
The Paseo Trail System. Park at any of the trailheads along Bouquet Canyon Road or McBean Parkway and run or walk as far as you want. The connected paths mean you can create a 3-mile loop or a 10-mile out-and-back. Add some bodyweight exercises at one of the outdoor fitness stations along the way, and you have a complete workout for zero dollars. That is the SCV lifestyle at its best.
