William S. Hart Union High School District
Grades 7-12 · Across SCV
The Hart District serves all of Santa Clarita Valley for junior high and high school (grades 7-12). It's one of the top-rated secondary school districts in California, with 15 junior high schools and 8 comprehensive high schools. First day of school: August 11, 2026.

Elementary education in SCV is served by four main districts: Saugus Union School District (serving Valencia and Saugus), Newhall School District (serving Newhall and parts of Valencia), Sulphur Springs Union School District (serving Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch), and Castaic Union School District (serving Castaic). Each has its own calendar and start dates — typically the same week as the Hart District.

SCV Youth Sports
The City of Santa Clarita runs youth basketball, flag football, T-ball, and volleyball leagues. Fall registration is open now. Ages 6-17. Scholarships available.
Arts & Music Programs
The Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts, local music studios, and the SCV Arts Council offer after-school lessons in music, dance, theater, and visual arts.
Library Programs
Santa Clarita Public Library branches offer after-school homework help, reading programs, and enrichment activities for all ages. Free and open to all SCV residents.

Where to Shop for School Supplies
SCV has plenty of options for back-to-school shopping. Target and Walmart in Valencia and Canyon Country have dedicated school supply sections with grade-specific lists. Staples and Office Depot carry bulk supplies and often run teacher discount programs.
For school uniforms, French Toast and Lands' End are popular online options, and local stores like Kohl's and JCPenney at Valencia Town Center carry uniform-compliant clothing.
Sam's tip: Shop early. The best selection is in late July, and by the second week of August, the shelves get picked over. Many SCV schools post their supply lists on their websites by mid-July.
Sam's Tips for a Smooth Transition
Start the Routine Early
About a week before school starts, begin shifting bedtimes and wake-up times by 15 minutes each day. If your kids have been sleeping in until 9 AM all summer, jumping to a 6:30 AM alarm on day one is a recipe for a rough morning. Gradual shifts work much better.
Do a Practice Run
A few days before school starts, do a dry run of the morning routine. Walk or drive the route to school, time how long it takes, and identify any potential issues. This is especially helpful for kids starting at a new school or transitioning to junior high.
Talk About the New Year
Have conversations about the upcoming school year. What are they excited about? What worries them? For kids starting at a new school, see if you can visit the campus before the first day. Familiarity reduces anxiety, and an open conversation helps them feel heard.
Create a Command Center
Set up a family command center near the door you use most. A bulletin board with the school calendar, a hook for backpacks, a bin for permission slips, and a spot for lunch boxes. The evening before school, everything gets prepped and placed in the command center — no morning chaos.
